There are really three different things that constitute clarity.
The first thing is certainty, clarity, basically, what is your internal state? Is your internal state a state of clarity or is your internal state a state of confusion?
There's a power in being grounded, that effect is amplified when there is chaos everywhere around you. There's power in being focused, especially when there's distraction and low priority items cluttering your field of vision.
And focus is simply this: you separate the signal from the noise, the wheat from the chaff, the distraction from the action.
The first thing is clarity of outcome. What is it that you want? What's the outcome you are after?
Clarity on outcome beats taking directionless action every single time.
1. Clarity of Mind
I think you've got to begin with clarity of mind. So, what is clarity of mind? That's probably step one.
Clarity of mind is when you have the ability to be still, have internal silence, internal calm, when everything around you is chaotic, loud, and noisy.
That is really the key. How do you make your mind calm?
Well, you have to understand that it's 100% within your own control. Your mind is not some outside force. You can calm your mind. You can calm a racing mind the same way that you could slow down a car.
People say, you're not your thoughts.
Yeah, well, I'm not my car, but I can control my car.
You can control your thoughts.
If I say, "think about a pink fucking elephant", you can think about that.
If I say, think about a waterfall with 200 pigs flying off the edge of it, you can think about that.
If I say, think about an airplane that's flying upside down, you can think about that.
If I say, think about a calm image of a waterfall, you can think about that.
If I say, think about a large cloud in the sky that all of a sudden minimizes and gets tiny, you can think about that.
If you can think about that, you've just proven to yourself you can control your mind.
And while this is not an entire course on how to exert mind control on yourself, this is a brief letter on the importance of doing so and an encouragement to you that you actually have sovereignty over your own mind and you have sovereignty over your own body.
In fact, try it right now.
Refuse to do something and say, "I'm not going to think about that. I'm going to think about the exact opposite."
Take the time to dominate your mind, dominate your body, and when you think that things are out of control, literally ask, "great, what is it that I don't want to do?" - then do it.
I don't want to think about this task, project, obligation, problem... whatever.
Great, fucking think about it.
"I don't want to do this."
Great, fucking do it.
"I don't want to sit this particular way."
Fucking sit that particular way.
2. Clarity of Outcome
Clarity of outcome is where you sit back and you say, I know what this is going to look like when I'm successful.
3. Clarity on the Logical Next Step
I know what the logical next step is for me to get there. The LNS. I know what the logical next step is.
4. Be Bold, Audacious
Do the thing that you fear, do the thing that you procrastinate on and what you'll find is that the little demons that you're so afraid of are nothing but harmless kittens under the bed that you've been imagining were tigers and lions and monsters, and they're not.
You can simply pick them up by the scruff of their neck and do whatever the fuck you need to do and move the fuck on.
You're in control of your life, you're in control of your thoughts, you are in control of your body, you're in control of your emotions, you're in control of your reactions and your responses, you're in control of your default and you're in control of your programming and you're in control of what your programming will continue to be.
5. Articulate, Specifically and Precisely
You are in control of your articulation. How clearly can you articulate your outcome?
I don't mean can you write an essay on it. I mean, can you write it in a sentence?
What level of clarity do you have on your outcome?
That is the key over and over that I find to be the thing.
Overwhelm is simply an indicator that you're not clear on your outcome.
Overwhelm is simply an indicator that everything is important.
Meaning what? You've got zero prioritization.
Meaning what? That you don't know what's actually important to you.
Meaning what? That you can't articulate your thoughts.
There's never a situation where everything is important at the exact same time. Never.
It's all in your control and you can take back your power whenever you decide to.
Clarity is where it starts.
Clarity in mind.
Clarity in outcome.
Clarity in the logical next step.
You got this. Be great.
